Nia is guided by Jennifer Loftus every Tuesday from 4-5 pm and Thursday from 8-9 am at Island Spirit Yoga in Lahaina.
What IS Nia?
Nia is a body, mind and spirit cardio fitness class to music that incorporates nine different movement forms
drawn from the martial arts, dance arts and healing arts. As an ongoing practice, Nia promotes mindfulness,
holistic fitness and well- being.
Nia empowers people of all shapes and sizes to connect to their body, mind, emotions and spirit by paying
attention to sensation in connection to the JOY of movement to increase life force energy! Nia's philosophy
is that through movement we find health.
Nia is sensational! Every Nia class guides students to mindfully focus on sensation in their body while listening
and dancing to music. Each class has its own kind of magic that fosters personal creativity and expression
by inviting the music to be the impetus for the movement. We close each class with a short meditation.
Nia is practiced barefoot. Through non-impact choreography and listening to the intelligence of the body's design,
Nia delivers a holistic fitness experience. Every class is adaptable to individual needs and abilities.
Nia is FUN!!
There will be no YogaSOMATIC immersions for the rest of the year. I know how busy we all get during the holiday season here on our island.
However, my teacher, mentor and founder of YogaSOMATICS, Ateeka will be teaching workshops here on Maui. I will keep you informed on the logistics of when, where, etc…
I will continue to share YogaSOMATICS after January. My vision is to share it as a class, 2 times a month on Mondays. I am working out a location and time. It will more than likely be in the afternoon around the hours of 1:00 to 4:00. If you are interested in attending please let me know.
The class will be 2.5hrs/$25. I feel that having class twice a month rather than a once a month immersion will encourage a more supportive, deeper and profound healing experience. Please share this with anyone you feel would be interested.
YogaSOMATICS is a Holistic approach to human expression through authentic movement.
We are living in a time of shifting from an old paradigm to a new one. Culturally we are shifting from the Industrial Revolution to the information age. We must also shift from the mechanistic approach concerning the body to a bio-intelligent, bio-dynamic approach to the body. The paradigm needs to shift from “body as object” to “body as process”. To make this shift we must be willing to experience what is interrupting the natural flow of harmony, to perceive and respect our inner and interconnectedness with all of life’s processes and to cultivate a desire to explore what it is being human. The challenge then is not one of learning to control oneself, but to discover what disrupts the ability to self-organize and be coherent in space and time.

YogaSOMATICS is a practice that helps to develop somatic awareness as inner dialogue, a listening. As we follow our internal messages they lead us to a deeper experience of support, balance and integrity.
